AWS is driving enterprise AI capabilities

We drove up to the AWS Summit in Los Angeles last week - it was a one-day free conference all about Generative AI and the related products that AWS has been developing.

After the keynote and taking in some sessions, I was left with the impression that these AI tools are going to be critical to software devlopment, and business in general, going forward. There were two main use-cases that I expect to see a lot in the coming months.

RAG based help-bots

RAG (Retrieval-Augmented Generation) allows companies to set the context for LLMs to be only information that is approved and specific to that company’s use case. AWS Bedrock has a Knowledge Bases feature which makes this very straight-forward, and the Q for Business product makes it a no-code exercise. In this use case, the LLM is using its general intelligence and reasoning, but is augmeneted with context specific content which is provided by the company. This reduces hallucinations and allows the help-bot to answer questions using a company’s data securely.

Developer Assisted Coding / Agents

Generative AI is also making strides in assisting developers. AWS CodeWhisperer and other similar tools are designed to help write code faster by suggesting lines, functions, or even entire blocks based on context. This is akin to having a very smart assistant that understands the nuances of your codebase and can help automate repetitive or boilerplate coding tasks. Additionally, with Bedrock’s capabilities, companies can build agents that interact with their specific development workflows, handling tasks like code review, debugging, or even creating new modules based on high-level requirements.

These agents can save time, reduce errors, and allow developers to focus on more creative or complex parts of the development process.

Infinite Interns: A Perfect Use Case for Gen AI

One way to think about Gen AI is to imagine having access to infinite interns who can work on repetitive or scalable tasks simultaneously. Whether it’s generating marketing content, managing customer queries, or processing large datasets, if a task can be done by a lot of people following a structured approach, it’s a strong candidate for Gen AI. The technology can handle the grunt work, leaving your team to focus on strategy, creativity, and problem-solving.

As more businesses adopt these tools, it will become increasingly important to leverage these “infinite interns” effectively to stay competitive and scale efficiently.
